Mike Hamilton currently serves as the President of Engagement at Blood: Water Mission. Mike came to Blood:Water after 26 years in intercollegiate athletics at Clemson University, Wake Forest University, and the University of Tennessee. He served at the University of Tennessee for nearly 20 years, spending 8 of those years as Athletic Director where he managed a budget in excess of $100 million annually. During his tenure, fundraising revenue grew ten-fold to $45 million annually and totaled over $500 million in his tenure, $275 million in new facilities were constructed, and he created one of the few self-sustaining athletic departments in the country.
Mike holds BS and MBA degrees from Clemson University and has served on the board for ShowHope and (prior to his employment) Blood:Water Mission, among other local, regional and national nonprofits. In Knoxville, he also chaired the Knoxville Chamber Partnership and the United Way. He was named National Fundraiser of the Year in college athletics in 1998, he has been named by Business TN as a member of the “Power 100” and has been awarded numerous honors for his work with youth and children.
Mike and his wife, Beth, have five children, three of whom were adopted from Ethiopia. Their youngest daughter, who is HIV positive, is named Kalu, which means, “get the word out” and since 2009, that is exactly what Mike has been trying to do in regards to orphan crisis issues and healthcare needs in Africa.
