At this year’s annual RFK Human Rights Ripple of Hope Ceremony in New York City, Health eVillages Board member Glen Tullman, Founder and Executive Chairman of Livongo Health, was honored as one of the four laureates, including Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Author J.K. Rowling and Environmentalist and Social Activist Wendy Abrams, of the prestigious Ripple of Hope Award. This award celebrates successful leaders of various international business, entertainment and activist communities who have exhibited a devotion to social change, all while reflecting Robert F. Kennedy’s passion for equal opportunity and basic human rights. Health eVillages founder, Donato Tramuto, and fellow Board member, John Boyer, have also received this award in past years. Health eVillages is extremely proud of Glen’s hard work, determination and contribution to their organization. It is a true privilege to have Glen serve as a founding member of the Health eVillages Board of Directors.

Livongo Health offers a whole-person platform that empowers people with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, weight management and behavioral health issues, to live better and healthier lives. The “Livongo Approach” also delivers better clinical and financial outcomes for those with long-term illnesses.

During Glen’s acceptance speech, he spoke about the driving factors behind the founding of Livongo. He shared the personal story of when his 8-year-old son, Sam, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. “I went and I first saw him in the hospital, and he looked up and he said, ‘can we fix this?’ You know, I did what most parents would do to their son or daughter and I said ‘of course we can’,”- Glen Tullman.

Sam’s diabetes diagnosis sparked something inside of Glen, and eventually led to the launch of Livongo, by employing smart-connected devices, personalized-digital guidance and round-the-clock access to health professionals. Livongo is making a difference for people with chronic conditions. One example of this is when diabetes members’ blood sugar readings are out of range, a diabetes response specialist will call or text within minutes. Glen explained, “At Livongo, what we wanted to create was this safety net, this blanket that says ‘wherever you are, whenever you need to talk to someone, 24 hours a day, within 60 seconds, we’ll be on the phone with you to understand what you need’.”

Livongo is bringing a high level of care and accessibility to hundreds of thousands of people in need who otherwise would not be receiving it. Glen has also raised over $100,000,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Diabetes Association, which has contributed to additional breakthroughs, such as catalyzing the Artificial Pancreas Project, changing the lives of millions for the better.

Health eVillages is exceedingly grateful for the opportunity to benefit from Glen’s leadership, passion, knowledge, perseverance and drive to make the world a better place for so many people. Congratulations, Glen!
