Location: Mirebalais, Haiti
Built in 2013, Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais serves an area that is home to 3.4 million people, as well as the many who travel across the country to receive the hospital’s renowned quality of care. The 300-bed facility treats more than 700 patients a day, many of whom wait hours—sometimes days—to be seen. The 700-person staff consists of 50 physicians and 300 nurses, as well as numerous support staff.
Health eVillages partnered with Mirebalais in June 2015 and has provided a device for each of the hospital’s wards. In phase one, 10 nurses were trained on the Health eVillages technology, content, and apps – much of which was made available in French.
As of 2017, a newly constructed “Mother’s House” has been built and Health eVillages tablets are being used in order to conduct education within the patient space for expectant mother’s awaiting care.
